ROMA Community Supports

Empower works closely with Manouche National Roma Centre. Manouche (community) is a Roma-led organisation which aims to meet the human rights, social and cultural needs of the Roma population in Ireland and actively promotes integration and understanding between Roma and other communities.

Empower collaborate with Manouche to run a number of Roma dedicated programmes:

  • Buchi (work) is a Roma employment preparation programme that includes a broad range of training, including Language Skills, Driver Theory, IT, Manual Handling, Safe Pass and other industry-specific training. It also incorporates Ireland’s first Roma-specific Community Employment programme, which offers meaningful work experience to up to 25 Roma annually. This programme covers Roma mainly in Fingal and Monaghan, but also Dublin, Louth and Meath.
  • Buchi Romnienghe (working women) which supports Roma women to engage in pre-employment, and employment preparation supports.
  • Roma Advocacy. Empower employ a number of Roma Advocacy and Engagement staff and a Roma Women’s Officer.

Empower also provide a range of supports, including representation on the Board, to Musicantia Roma Music and Cultural School.
